Road Block for Oklahoma Immigration Law

A federal judge on June 4 blocked Oklahoma from enforcing parts of its new immigration law. The law has been challenged by several chambers of commerce and other business groups.  In the ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Robin J. Cauthron said that the challenged sections of state law are pre-empted by federal immigration law.  The controversial Oklahoma law required employers that did business with the state to use the federal E-Verify system to determine the work authorization status of prospective employees. It also increased penalties on, and terminated the contracts of, businesses that knowingly employed unauthorized workers.

Get a Step Ahead of

Federal Contract Requirements

If you’re involved in federal contract work, you may want to begin using the E-Verify system now, as it could become mandatory soon.  An executive order issued June 9 requires that ALL federal contractors use the electronic verification system to confirm the employment eligibility and work authorization of their workforce. Contractors would require all subcontractors performing work under contracts exceeding $3,000 to adhere to the E-Verify requirement. And a June 12 Department of Homeland Security proposal to amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) requires that certain contracts contain a clause requiring that the contractor and certain subcontractors utilize the E-Verify system.  Affected contractors would be given 30 days to enroll in E-Verify after the contract award.  The new requirement will become effective after federal agencies revise the regulations that govern federal contracts.  PHCC will be questioning and opposing several aspects of the executive order and DHS proposal and will keep members informed of this issue.

IMPORTANT NOTE: P-H-C contractors in states that currently require the use of E-Verify should continue with practices as mandated by the law in the state which the contractor does business.

Rheem Direct Vent Tankless Water Heaters avoid

IAQ problems in modern “Tight” homes, offices

Montgomery, AL - The 7.4 GPM Direct Vent Tankless Gas Water Heater from Rheem draws makeup combustion air directly from outside the residence or the business structure, rather than from the interior. This feature eliminates the need for additional provisions for combustion air on the inside, while alleviating indoor air quality (IAQ) problems.

Rheem Direct Vent Tankless Water Heaters also offer these important features:

•        Remote control operation: The UMC-117 remote control can be set from 100°F to a maximum of 140°F. Additional remote control thermostats are also available and sold separately•

•        Connect two units for high-demand applications: The EZ-Link™ cable connects two tankless units to operate as one.

•        Film wrap overheat limiter: A Rheem exclusive, this device instantly detects an unsafe temperature in the heat exchanger of a Rheem tankless water heater and immediately shuts down the unit.

•        High-altitude models: Unless optimized for high-altitude use, gas appliances cannot achieve their maximum BTU punch at mountain altitudes. Rheem offers two high-altitude options: up to 6,560-foot or 9,840-foot elevations.

•        High performance for many years: Rheem Direct Vent Tankless Water Heaters carry a 10-year limited warranty on the heat exchanger and a three-year limited warranty on all parts.

Like the rest of the Rheem Tankless line, these units are third-party-certified to have an Energy Factor of .82 by the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA).
